Core strategic benefits include
- Refining capacity secured in a friendly jurisdiction
- 100% hydroelectric electricity supply
- Supplemental supply from Electra’s Ontario site in case of Bécancour bottleneck
Electra’s future Bécancour cobalt sulfate refinery site is strategically located next to Vale’s nickel sulfate plant, with other key players such as GM, POSCO, Ford and others building facilities in this “battery valley”.
The Bécancour Industrial Park is gaining a reputation as one of the largest industrial and port parks in Canada. Strategically located between Quebec City and Montreal on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, the Bécancour Industrial Park is a true hub for North American trade.
With Government support and strong relationships with Investment Quebec, Electra is uniquely positioned to build a refinery capacity in a phased approach. Phase I metal dissolution targets a line up to 2,000tpa cobalt contained in sulfate while Phase II metal dissolution targets a line up of 5-10ktpa. The attractive economics of processing with Electra, includes cost savings through direct integration with POSCO facility.
