Electra’s phased approach to market entry allows us to grow in line with demand from the evolving electric vehicle market, while minimizing risk and optimizing our capital deployment.

Electra’s Flagship Asset

The Ontario Hydrometallurgical Refinery

Our Refinery acts as a critical bridge between the North American electric vehicle supply chain and North American sources of raw minerals and recycled materials.

Located in Ontario, Canada, near the largest auto manufacturing centres in North America, Electra’s products are produced locally.  Our site is approximately 350 miles (600 kilometres) from the U.S. border and is accessible by road or rail. In addition to the renewable and affordable hydroelectricity that powers our site, Electra will produce the world’s lowest carbon solution for zero-emission vehicles.

Battery recycling

Transforming waste into the next generation of batteries

Electra has a proven process for recycling of battery materials, targeting black mass, the product of end-of-life and off-spec batteries produced by gigafactories are collected, shredded, and separated to the critical material component.  Electra’s process allows the products to be subsequently upgraded to battery grade materials and reused by the gigafactories to produce batteries once more.

As electric vehicle adoption increases and renewable energy industries ramp up in North America, Electra will use hydrometallurgy to recycle black mass back into useable battery materials.

Low Carbon Footprint

We take a proactive, risk-based approach to environmental
management, with robust measures that help ensure we minimize our impact, while ensuring the viability of the environment for future generations.  When compared to offshore refining facilities, our North American refinery has:

0%

lower CO2 emissions

0%

lower water consumption

0%

lower eutrophication potential

0%

lower global warming potential

Technology

Hydrometallurgy: Prioritizing sustainable practices to reduce our environmental footprint

  • Superior anode & cathode raw materials recovery means less waste back into the environment
  • Less capital & energy intensive when compared to thermal and pyro-metallurgical alternatives used by most
  • Water-based solutions to extract raw materials can be treated and returned to mother earth
